Schiphol and more Schiphol...

The title says it all, here you will find my best and/or most interesting photos taken at Schiphol Airport. ALL PHOTOS ARE THUMBNAILED, SO JUST CLICK ON THE PHOTO TO SEE A LARGER IMAGE.

NEW in AMS!! Virgin Atlantic A340-642 at Schiphol Airport. This is the first time a A340-600 visited Schiphol. The aircraft had to make an emergency landing at Schiphol because of an engine failure. A next problem occured when the A340-600 could not be towed to a remote area as the A340-600 is not handled at Schiphol. Virgin Atlantic later sent a B747-400 to bring a towbar to tow the A340-600 to another stand and also picked up the stranded passengers from the A340-600. This was the best photo I could take, after which I was told to go away by the security on the tarmac :-). Aircraft on photo: Virgin Atlantic Airbus A340-600, reg. G-VATL "Miss Kitty". Aircraft also wears the titles "Backing the bid". Typically Richard Branson, you gotta love it... :-)

NEW in AMS!! Another photo of this beauty, Miss Kitty Airborn October 2003

This was the B747-400 Virgin Atlantic sent to pick up the stranded A340-600 passengers and bring in the A340-600 towbar. As you can see on the photo, it was a very hazy day that day. Aircraft on photo: Virgin Atlantic B747-41R, reg. G-VXLG "Ruby Tuesday".

El Al B747-458 in-flight photo taken from the spotter's location at the Kaagbaan on a cold day on december 29th 2004. Aircraft was probably at a cruising altitude of 31000 feet and is going to LHR. Aircraft on photo: El Al Israeli Airlines B747-400, reg. 4X-ELC and named "Be'er Sheva".

Close-up of a KLM B747-406M, reg. PH-BFO "City of Orlando", landing on the Kaagbaan runway. Nice detail on the aircraft's wing and engines. The water spraying on the runway completes the picture ;-)

My first close-up photo of a B747-400 (KLM B747-406M, reg. PH-BFF "Freetown") with my digital camera. Photo taken at the world famous spotting location, Schiphol's Kaagbaan runway. As you can see, aircraft pass right in front of you. The water effect on the main landing gear, makes this a nice photo in my opinion :-)

China Southern Cargo B747-41BF/SCD, reg. B-2461, just arrived from Asia. Nice colourscheme :-)

Close-up of Martinair's new livery...

This photo was taken right after the roll-out ceremony at Schiphol of their new livery. Aircraft on photo: Martinair B767-31A/ER, reg. PH-MCI "Prins Pieter-Christiaan". I like their new livery. You can't miss that livery on any airport ;-)

The newest Antonov AN-124 flying today. This aircraft was delivered to Polet Cargo Airlines new in June 2004. Aircraft info: Polet Cargo Airlines AN-124-100 Ruslan, reg. RA-82020 "International Gold Star".

Sunset close-up of this new AN-124 Ruslan.

Northwest Airlines' DC-10-30 wearing the new livery. If you look closely you will see the grey colour is slightly different from their A330 aircraft. Aircraft on photo: Northwest Airlines DC-10-30, reg. N232NW.

Another DC-10 wearing Northwest Airlines' new livery. This time it's tailnumber N239NW.

Northwest Airlines new A330-323X being towed for its return flight to the U.S. Aircraft on photo: Northwest Airlines A330-323X, reg. N805NW.

This is one my favorite aircraft, the A330-200. On the photo it's operated by Cyprus Airways. Aircraft info: Cyprus Airways A330-243, reg. 5B-DBS "Ammochostos".

NEW!! My first photo of Martinair Cargo's first aircraft in their new livery. Aircraft info: Martinair Cargo MD11F, reg. PH-MCW.

NEW!! Tail close-up of Martinair Cargo's new livery. "Old meets new".

NEW!! Close-up of the front fuselage with the large billboard Martinair Cargo titles clearly visible. The aircraft looks new to me ;-)

NEW 06MAR05: Martinair's Boeing 767-31A/ER coming in on the Kaagbaan runway wearing the airline's new livery. The white reflection of the snow on the aircraft gives the aircraft an even fresher look ;-)

NEW 06MAR05: KLM Boeing 777-206ER (PH-BQH "Hadrian's Wall") on finals on the Kaagbaan runway. It was a very cold day that day with snow everywhere. But it was worth it.... :-))

NEW 06MAR05: About 1.8 seconds later...... ;-)

NEW 06MAR05: Viking Boeing Mc Donnel Douglas MD82 (SE-RDG) over the numbers at the Kaagbaan. I've never seen this airline, so it was a nice surprise. This is also one of the first (if not, the first photo) of this registration taken in AMS.

NEW 06MAR05: KLM's newest Boeing 777 (PH-BQK "Mount Kilimanjaro") arriving from a long haul flight.

NEW 05MAR05: I took this photo just to show you how extreme the weather was during those days. The contrast of the white against the grey sky makes this photo interesting. Visibility must have been almost 0 on that day. Aircraft on photo: BMI Airbus A320, G-MIDS.

NEW 06MAR05: KLM Cityhopper Fokker 50 coming in, close-up style. Now what engine types would this Fokker be using. A brown eagle with a blue backdrop, hmmm.... :-))

NEW 06MAR05: Looks like this aircraft is hanging still with its propellers turnt off.. in the air!!! :-))

NEW 10MAR05: EasyJet's brand-new Airbus A319 taxiing in to its gate. This airline is the first low-cost airline to operate the A319 in an "all-low-cost" cabin lay-out, seating appr. 150 passengers!!!

NEW 13MAR05: Ex-United Airlines Boeing 747-400 stripped and prepared for its new owner, Corsair of France. The first 747-400s are being disposed of and going to other airlines now. Here's the prove. This aircraft came from the dessert in Tucson, AZ. Aircraft info: Ex-United Airlines Boeing 747-422 (N189UA) now going to Corsair and will be re-registered as F-HSEX.

NEW 13MAR05: Portuguese charter airline Luzair operated this Lockheed L-1011-500 but is now stored at Schiphol after its nr. 1 engine caught fire just before take-off a few years ago. Aircraft will probably be written-off, scrapped or sold for spare parts. Aircraft info: Luzair L-1011-500 (CS-TMR). Sad to see this rare bird left to its misery.. :-(
